Hi Deb, Thanks for the kind look-ups & for your input. All infromation adds to the mystery re this generation!!
I have five successive generations of ancestors named William Jones (God Bless them for originality!) & sorting them out is fun!The work by Jill Stratton (BISA) confuses them (she also confuses other relatives of mine, too, so I am wary whe using the Biographical Index of Sth Australoans ;-)I must re-search the B&D CDs.Thanks for the leads.
William and Ann Allingham were my 3xgt-grandparents. Her maiden name was apparently SHORT. He was from Devon, she was probably from there also. Their daughter Jane (confused with Sussannah Jane Allinghame in the BISA) married William Jones b. c 1850 I don't know about William Jones who married Frances Hoath in 1855; I thought that my William of this generation was the son of William Jones and Elizabeth POLLARD.Will need to check. Using onomastic reasoning, the names William, Jane, Elizabeth, Henry, sit well in nthe family tree. John is unknown to me but could be related to the William Jones line somewhere.
The family lived in Ashborne area at some time as well as at Finniss and later generations moved to Magill (ran the Violet Farm there).
Thanks for the leads.
Wal
