Re your recent posts...Fontayne...Caribbean/French etc...
Maybe no link, but I had some, French exiled, plantation owners in Santo Domingo, now Haiti. A Marie Magdelina Raison de la Geneste...sister to "my" relative. They were able to excape what's now Haiti, during the conflagration of their plantations, when L'Toussaint & Napoleon went at it, early 1800's.Many were able to excape to Cuba, then to the Gulf states region, mine went to St Charles, LA (not Lake Charles...but near New Orleans) Marie TC Raison de la Geneste-Gardner's sister, married Antoine de la Fontaine du Chaussenelle, and had a dtr Julia who married into a well-heeled family in NOLA, a hotel by the name was still in the Old Section there..Ck out the history of the de la Fontaines, who were VERY early on, involved in the area around what's now VA..and had monestaries in France, etc. It's all very interesting.Anyway, France owed these families some monetary settlement and I'ms till looking for the document stating all the names...some shortened, Americanized, etc...You can click on my name and ck out my postings on here...also ck out Cheryl Neal's posts, re the Raison/Young lines (the brother of these sisters) and theone, above, who married into the de la Fontaine lines. (He had a Visa from L'Toussaint to procure supplies for his troups and probably was able to get his family out using that. All interesting, as I mentione, tho maybe nothing pertaining to yours, but there's been some info indicating that many fled to Austrailia and to Belgium, during that time, also.
Let me know if anything comes of this, ok?
Thanks...
