We thought we would see what we could find on this family. We are not related but it seemed like an interesting project.
We think we have a family for Fred with a high probability of being correct. The problem is that each of the documents has little twist that doesn’t meet the family completely.
In 1910 There is a Fred W and Katherine L living in 15-WD PITTSBURGH, ALLEGHENY, PA, The listing is
King, James A, 54, m1, married for 31 years, born in England
Isabella H, 55, m1, Married for 31, gave birth to 5 children, 1 living, born in England
King, Fred W, Son, 23, Married for 1 year, , born in England, immigrated in1889
Katherine L, Dau in Law, 19, married for 1 year,0 Children, born in PA
This is technically correct we think, because Newfoundland did not join Canada until after the 1930 census.
In 1900 James and Isabella are living in LEECHBURG BORO,ARMSTRONG Co, PA. They are listed as being born in Newfoundland. Everything is consistent except their child is listed as Flenncy, a daughter. She was born in June of 1886.
We went to the Newfoundland Vital Records and found
KING, Frederick Walter born to James KING andIsabella (BASTOW) onJune 27 1886 in St. Johns, bapon Aug 19 1886. The problem is Walter.

In 1920 Kathleen King is living with her mother and father in South Brownsville, Fayette, Pennsylvania with 3 children. The children list their father as being born in Newfoundland.
WELDON Baker and family lived in Fayette Co., PA from at 1900 thru 1920.
We looked for Fred W in the WWI draft registrations and found Fred Walter King born on the exact date listed in the Newfoundland VR in Fayette Co. The problem is that he claims to have been born in Providence, RI and says he is a US Citizen. The form that Fred used does not name the next of kin, but it does say that he is married and has 4 children.
So the questions that remain are:
Is Kathleen’s middle initial “L”
Does England mean Newfoundland
Is Flenncy really Fred.
Is Willard really Walter.
Did Fred lie about his citizenship to join the armed forces or was he born in RI and baptized in Newfoundland.
Did Fred and Kathleen have a child that died between 1917 and 1920?
We can find no answers to the above questions.
