Re: BAT Tientsin
I am reasonably sure my father would not have know any Tientsin staff as he was five when he left Shanghai in Dec 1940 (also born in 1935) for Canada, but his father was caught by the Japanese and was a POW for the duration of the war. He survived and joined the family in Canada at war's end in 1945. Grandfather's family was originally from Bristol, England, and he left for Shanghai in 1920, so he was in Shanghai for twenty five years. I am willing to bet grandfather would have known some Tientsin staff because not only was he there for two decades and a half decades, but he was overseer for the Yee Taoong Tobacco Distributors, Shanghai.
Close, but not quite close enough ....
