You might also check castlegarden.org since they arrived before Ellis Island opened in 1892.Use wildcards on the last name, as the spelling very likely not the same as you have now.Our family had 3 different spellings in the span of 3 yrs due to language barriers. (try Rusk*, R*sk*, etc.) Our family came from Vienna through Bremen, Germany to NYC before settling in Wisconsin. Don't assume a southern port because they settled in the south --- it could be that someone/thing else drove them west.
