Andrew Lucas Hunt 1791-1861 and his wife Sarah Sanderson 1774-1877 had 6 children:Sophia (who married her cousin Edwin), Maria, Sarah Jane(married Alexander Macgregor), Ann Emma (married James Westcott), Alfred William (artist, husband of author Margaret Raine, and father of author Violet Hunt), and Amelia.
It was Amelia who married Robert Charles Dudley.According to" The Hunt Family," by Frank Childs,Mr. Dudley was a direct descendant of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, of Kenilworth, who married Amy Rosart.A favorate of Queen Elizabeth.(end of Childs' material).
Robert only had one child survive to adulthood, Sir Robert Dudley (he was illegitimate), who had many children by two wives.I am not able to track this line to Robert Charles Dudley.Could be true, but can't verify.
Mr. Dudley was the artist on the Great Eastern sent by the "Illustrated London News" to paint a series of pictures of the laying of the Atlantic Cable in 1866.See "The Zodiac," London, England, of April 1933, Page 288, and the "Telegraph and Telephone Age,"New York, of January 1934, page 24.He was engaged by Queen Victoria to paint the wedding scene of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII.
I can verify that Amelia Hunt, daughter of Edwin and Sophia married Frank Hall Childs. Here is her entry from "The Hunt Family" by Frank Hall Childs, her husband.
Joined the Second Presbyterian Church in Chicago December 22, 1869.
Attended Dearborn Seminary, but owing to the Chicago fire, never graduated. Was fond of music.Married Frank Hall Childs by Rev Simon J. McPhreson. The whole Hunt family, even herself, opposed this marriage, but it proved to be the most successful of the family. In her later years she "worshipped" her husband--almost too much so -- and he was devoted to her.No children. She had heart trouble for some years, and finally had to be carried upstairs. She dropped dead at my feet on October 2, 1928, 4:15 PM while making a call on Mary Hunt Gunning (1653 West 25th St., Los Angles, CA).Body cremated, and ashes in Nich 80, Columbarium, Woodlawn, Pico Boulevard and Fourteenth street, Santa Monica, California. At the time of her death she was living at 15218 Friends Street, Pacific Palisades, CA where she had moved July 3, 1925.
If you are a Hunt cousin, I would welcome your contacting me.I am of the Louise Hunt - George Frost line.
