BOXLEITER/BOXLEITNER/BUCHLEIDER/????????NEED HELP PLEASE
The family name (Now) is Boxleiter. And I've done all kinds of searches and came up with info on my people from not only the searches but what I have gathered from family. It's not a very well know name and it's by far not common. But the spelling now has probably evolved many times to get to it's present day spelling.I have gotten back as far as the 1850 US Census where I found them in Hamilton Co., Cincinnati, Ohio. The census taker wrote the name down as Bookslider. Then in 1860, I found them in my home state of Iowa and the census taker wrote the name down as Bockslider.
I can't find hide nor hair of them before the 1850 census and I don't know if it's because the soundex isn't picking up enough to match it with what it might have been when they came over from Germany.Records show Bavaria as the area, or just Germany. But I can't find passage of them anywhere and don't even know how they ended up in Cincinnati, Ohio.I suspect two brothers (John & Frederick) were originally arriving together -- but have found people unknown to me in Illinois and elsewhere (not many, but a few).I haven't been able to find immigration or naturalization records on any of them or marriage records in the states for the sons that came with them.
I am at a stand still and I just don't know which way to turn.Any ideas or recommendations will be taken to heart.I even tried to do a seach of German citizens living in Germany and can't even come close to the name.Oh, please say there is someone out there that may have some genealogy tricks up their sleeve. Thanks so much for listening.
Marianne
