German ancestors Helden, Westfalen, Prussia. need help
I've recently come across a photo of "distant cousins" of my great grandfather. I'm trying to find the common connection, but struggling with some of the records. Thought maybe someone would have some ideas. Not totally sure where to look.
My line: Frank J. Erlhoff b. Germany 1839. I'm not totally positive, but I believe his parents are Johann Erlhoff and Anna Marie Mueller. Frank Joseph Erlhoff was christened 16 Nov 1839 Roemisch-Katholisch e, Helden, Westfalen, Preussen. I can not find any other birth listings for Johann and Anna Marie Mueller. (I have a lead on Johann's parents, but am not focusing on that yet).
The distant cousin: Frank Alfred Erlhoff b. 16 July 1894 Germany. Supposedly he arrived in the US in 1923. I have him and his family in the 1930 and 1940 census. Some discrepancy that I can't explain. A WWI draft card that states he declared himself and that he's from "Kraewink, ???bruche, Germany". Not sure where that is (it's not super easy to read). There's also a WWII draft card that states he's from Rhine Province. I'm not even positive that it's the same Frank Erlhoff in both draft cards (but I really think it is). Does it sound logical that he came here as a single guy before/during WWI, then went back to Germany, married, and then officially came to the US in 1923?
This Frank (Franz) wife is Ellen Frieda Gertrud Bahrke b. 10 April 1900 Germany.
Any help or ideas of where/how to search is GREATLY appreciated. Reply here or email directly [email protected]
