Re: Where to begin with Rhineland-Palatinate ancestry?

I've recently made some progress in the Rhineland area without knowing ahead of time where my ancestors came from. There are transcriptions from a few towns online, and I got lucky to find some of my ancestors there.I did have to have some confirmed information ahead of time to find my match.Knowing some exact birth dates of my Michigan/German ancestors and siblings, names of their parents, and some approximate marriages, I found two sites helpful.I was able to gain a generation or two, and now have towns to target for further research.
Birth and marriage records for some towns were found on the LDS Family Search site.
Other records were found on this rootsweb page of transcriptions:
To best search the rootsweb data, either download the entire database to it's own directory on your home computer (a download link is on the site), or use google advanced search to search the entire database online for the specific surname you are looking for.
There were mild discrepancies between transcriptions of records that appeared on both sites, and I have a gut feeling about one name that needs a closer look, so my next step is to see if there are films I can order to verify/clarify... but at least I have a specific area and towns now.I was lost without that!
