DERRY -- Must be Irish? Maybe not!

Greetings --

I am looking for my family line. Have traced back to BALTSER DIERY (DERRY -- changed about the time of American Revolution), who came to America in 1752 from Oberhoffen, Germany. However, It is not clear if he was German or Irish. Any info. would surely be great.
