Fagan/Gethings in IRL and AUS
I (meaning lady who signed at bottom) rescued from an estate an old suitcase that was about to be thrown out. It has approximately 250 photos, several
certificates, letters, and other memorabilia. It was in a house in Clayfield, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, after
the lady owner, Kitty FAGAN died. The earliest photo with information is one of Thomas GETHINGS (1813-1879) from Tinahely,
Wicklow, Ireland. His children are John GETHINGS, Catherin SYNNOTT, Mary FAGAN, and Joseph GETHINGS. John GETHINGS came to
Australia with his sister Mary and a friend Ann DUNPHY on the Steam Ship "Duke of Becclugh?" in November 1887. John GETHINGS
later married Ann DUNPHY in St. Stephens Cathedral. There is little information on the photos. The certificates are: Marriage
certificate of John GETHINGS and Annie DUNPHY, married 20 Feb 1889, Brisbane. Annie DUNPHY came from Dublin, Ireland. Marriage
certificate of William FAGAN, born Trim, Meath, Ireland, to Anne Teresa GLEESON, Cappowhite, Tipperary, Ireland, married 31 July 1901, St. Stephen's Cathedral, Brisbane. Marriage certificate of
Paul Joseph CLEARY from Rockhampton, born 5 April 1890, married Mary Ann GETHINGS, born Maryborough, Queensland, Australia on
2 February 1907, married at St. Stephen's Cathedral on 28 November 1935. Birth certificate of Mary Ann GETHINGS, born
1st February 1907 (either marriage or birth certificate is wrong), born to John and Annie, Maryborough. There are also some
drawings done by Joseph GETHINGS in Maryborough in 1922. If you have links to any of those mentioned, you are welcome to these treasures.
