Hi, Velma.I'm assuming that you've collected death records and any birth records of the generations going back to Michael.Out of curiosity, because Durant isn't a name that shouts that it's Irish, I looked up the 1901 census for Ireland and there are only six Durants listed.Two of them are in Limerick, born London,and they're actors.The other four are in County Down, and the man is from England.

Were the Durants Catholic?Do you have a marriage record for him?Do you suppose he was married in the US?Occasionally Catholic marriage records contain ecclesiastical information but you have to ask the church if they have them.

If your man got on the boat in Queenstown, he more likely would've been from the south and or eastern part of Ireland.There were ships leaving from Queenstown (now Cobh) but there were ships that left from the North as well, and mostly people got on the closest boat.

Irish records are scant that far back, I'm very sorry to say.
