Thank you for replying to my posting.I am presently collecting information about any and all MAGOVERAN births in Oldcastle, Co. Meath, hoping to prove a connection to my MCCLEERY family of Oldcastle. So far, they only appear as godparents and witnesses to my proven MCCLEERY family.
Your Phillip MAGAURAN of Castlerahan interests me because his daughter Bridget married one Patrick MCCLEERY 19 Jun 1837 in Oldcastle.
I suspect that your Patrick was born 21 Jul 1816 in Oldcastle, parents Alexander MCCLEERY and Anne CONNELL.
I am trying to prove that the Patrick born 21 Jul 1816 is NOT the Patrick who married one Ellen GALLIGAN on 1 Aug 1839 in Oldcastle.Patrick-who-married-Ellen died in 1880 in Wrexham, Wales. He was my great-great-granduncle.I cannot find his birth record, but his children were all born in Oldcastle or Wrexham.
There is evidence that "my" Patrick's father was one Anthony MCCLEERY, presumably born before 1800, somewhere other than Oldcastle. At present, I am relying on the birth order of my Patrick's children to suggest which Patrick goes with which parents.Since "my" Patrick named his first son Anthony, and "your" Patrick named his first son Alexander, that would be consistent with Irish naming practice at that time, naming the first son after the paternal grandfather.
If "your" Patrick MCCLEERY followed his father-in-law Phillip MAGAURAN to Liverpool or America or wherever, then that leaves "my" Patrick free to emigrate to Wales and make his home there, dying in 1880.
I hope you can find what became of your MAGAURAN-MCCLEARY family, so I can separate them from my MCCLEARY-GALLIGAN family of Wales. If you would like to have a more detailed list of my MCCLEERY family of Oldcastle, I'll be glad to send it to you off-forum.We're probably going to trip over each other's family as we research Oldcastle and Castlerahan, so it would be best if we had each other's info.
