I just saw your email yesterday.I don't know if we are the Holahan's you are looking for but there are quite a few Holahan/Holohan families in Upper Drumreilly/Lower Drumreilly/Ballinamore/Fenagh in South Leitrim. We are all related.Don't know exactly how we came to Leitrim but it was probibly in the 18th Century.Leitrim is a long narrow county in the North West of Ireland, we have the shortest coast line (2 whole miles)We are surrounded by Donegal, Sligo, Roscommon, Cavan, Longford, Fermanagh.
I saw on another posting that you mentioned a church were Holahan/Gaffney family names are on windows. This is Drumlea Church Drumreilly, renovated in 1974 and the windows were sponsored by various familys in the 50's.
I have contacted our local Genealogy centre in the county Library and asked them to forward information on searching for family in South Leitrim.
My Grandfather's name was James. He was born in 1904.His fathers name was Michael. He had several sisters, but the lady you mentioned must have been born during the famine.around 1840's.As soon as i get any information back i will post it.
Please let me know if any of this is of use.
Good to hear there are other Holahan's out there.People always assume i spell it incorrectly and i say no it really excists as a name.
