Dianne - Have "liberated" another book from my mother's bookshelves "Permanent Way" - The Story of the Kenya and Uganda Railway, being the official history of the development of the Transport System in Kenya and Uganda, by M F Hill (1949).

A quick look in the index (it actually has one) doesn't show Ralph Dalgairns or Eckhard. However, there is a W Jones referred to - could this be your William?
