Vilis AVOTINS Info and "Latv Legion & POW's emigration"

Hi. I am following on from Alfons reply to William. William writes the dates for his fathers' arrival as between 1945 - 1960. I think I understand Alfons said hardly any civilians emigrated at that time and from this generation. Alfons said Latvian Legionaires and POW's emigrated at that time.
My questions to Alfons please, which years were you speaking about? Would the Immigration Authorities and the IRO know that these men were Ex Latvian Legion and POW's?

I am not sure about 1946/7, but after 1946/7 thousands of Latvian DP's came to Australia under the International Refugee Organisation agreement with countries. I do not think they were all Ex Latvian Legion or POW's. Many were families.

Also, to William, sorry if this sounds obvious, but have you checked the Immigration Records for your father? These hold a lot of information that you wouldn't expect. Also, post your inquiry at 'Latvians Online' Forum - Looking For Family.
