MAPLEWOOD Anna Belokopitsky Pawelczak, 86, died Saturday evening, June 18, 2005 at the Albany County Nursing Home in Colonie. Born in Maplewood on August 12, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Sophie Shatevich Belokopitsky. She was raised in Maplewood and was the valedictorian of her class at Maplewood Grammar School and at Watervliet High School. She later graduated from Troy Business College and took evening classes at Russell Sage College in Troy. She was employed by NYS Truck Mileage and NYS Dept of Taxation and Finance and retired from the Bendix Corporation in Green Island. She was a member of St. Basil's Orthodox Church in Maplewood where she served as secretary and treasurer for many years. She was a member of FROC (Federated Russian Orthodox Club) of the Upper NYS District and served as governor and financial secretary for the local chapter. She held a senior editorial position on the Russian Orthodox Journal, a nationally known journal. During World War II, Anna worked for the American Red Cross and wrote many letters to service men that were overseas and informed them of what was happening locally. Anna was the wife of the late Peter Pawelczak; sister of Eugenia B. Zaharchuk of Maplewood, Joseph Belokopitsky of Watervliet, Andrew Belokopitsky of Anderson, Ind. and the late Olga Washinko, Alexis, Michael (Mickey), George and Alexander Belokopitsky. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her nieces, Sophie Belokopitsky and Cathy Testo were her caregivers and were with her until her time of her death. The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and 9:00 a.m. at St. Basil's Orthodox Church, Maplewood. Interment, St. Basil's Cemetery, Maplewood. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. with the Parastas service at 6:30 p.m. Contributions may be made to St. Basil's Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home. The family would like to give special thanks to Community Hospice of Albany and to the 5th floor of Albany Co. Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Anna.
