Edward Avalon Collard Fort Johnson 1921
Hi,
I’m try to trace one of my wife’s uncles Edward Avalon Collard.
He was born in 1889 in Kent and lived in London until 1910 when he went to Rhodesia to join the British South Africa Police and signed on for the usual 3 year contract.
In 1914 he signed on for a second term. In 1917 he transferred to the Rhodesia Native Regiment and served with them in East Africa for the rest of the war and continued with the RNR after the war.
He retired from the RNR 2nd April 1921 and gave an address in Nyasaland.
The address appears to be
Chepunqa Estate
Lumbelele P.O.
Fort Johnson
Nyasaland
We don’t know whether he ever came back to the UK or stayed in Rhodesia/Nyasaland.
If anybody has any information about Brits in Nyasaland during that period or any hints/tips about how we can find any I would be most grateful.
Many thanks,
Grahame.
