My ancestor CVharles Hartley b: abt 1831 London, England arrived in New Zealand approx. 1860 or slightly before after having been a sailor to several parts of the world.
He married in 1861 in Okain's Bay, Banks Peninsula, Canterbury, NZ a Martha Bomforth born East Retford, England who arrived in Nelson with her parents, Henry Bomforth (killed in the Wairau Incident) & mother Caroline SHAW.
She firstly married a Henry Holstein who died in Akaroa afterwhich she married Charles Hartley in 1861 Okain's Bay, Banks Peninsula, NZ who at the time of his marriage, occupation was that of a shoemaker, later became a farmer in Okains where they had several Hartley children in the Bay.
