I know that it has been a while since you posted this but the mother's full name is Ellen Kristine Hans Jorgensdatter. She is my ggg grandmother. She was born May 13, 1808 in Klovstadm Sandsvaer, Buskerud, Norway and she died in 1881. She married Johannes Nielson (1798-1873) on Dec. 27 1830 in Hillestad, Buskerud, Norway where they lived and had a family. Jakob Kornelius (their son) emmigrated to America with his wife and children and sister in 1870 where they americanized their names. Jakob Kornelius Johannesen became Cornelius Jacob Johnson. Also another thing to consider while researching about Norwegian relatives, the children take the father's first name with the suffix of -sen/son (son) or -datter (daughter) so that could explain some confusion you may have in regards to last names not matching. so with Jakob his father's name is Johannes so his last name would be Johannessen which literally means Johannes' son.www.vennekretsen.com/Documents/GenealogyGuide.pdf this is a good website that explains the name thing as well as common Norwegian words and so on. I hope I don't sound like I'm rambling. I hope this helped.
