In regards to the name Hillestad.... it's not their last name. Hillestad is a parish within Sandsvaer, Buskerud, Norway. The people then took the farm or location of where they lived as a part of their name because of their naming system in regards to their last name. They take their location as a part of their name to use as an address almost. www.vennekretsen.com/Documents/GenealogyGuide.pdf this website explains all of that. The only thing that connects my relatives (Jakob Kornelius Johannesen, Johannes Nielson, Ellen Kristine Hans Jorgensdatter) with the people you're researching is that they lived on the same farm: Hillestad.
