Tina & Walter,
Thanks so much for the information you have given me.
Tina, I'm not aware of the existence of any birth certificates for my great-grandparents.I'll have to ask my Aunt if she might happen to have them. She may have my grandmother's, though, so I'll check and see(that may be where she got the name of the town).
Walter, the information that you cited....did you find that info in a book or some other source??
Walter, in follow-up to the Kozak/Cossack issue, my cousin said that my ancestor that was "Kozak/Cossack" was actually part of some mounted "army" that had "slaughtered people" (as she put it).Apparently, she actually has a photograph of that ancestor holding his sword, etc.Walter, you stated that there was "no room for Polish soldiers in this (Cossack) army".Being that my Kulczycki line is actually half-Russian (though my ancestors did not like to disclose that fact), could it be possible that it WAS the Russian Cossacks he was associated with??
Tina, I did go to the LDS site and did find that they do indeed have some records for Konkolniki (Slobodka Konkolnicka) and Stanislawow.I didn't realize that I could search for records by location...Thanks so much for steering me in that direction!!!!I'll see if I can come up with anything through those records first, and then I'll request records from Warsaw as you indicated.
When I do request records from Warsaw, how do I go about it???Will I be able to send the request in English??Is there a form letter somewhere that I can use??And do I request records for a particular surname or do I request the records for a certain location or religious ethnicity??
I will also do as you suggest about joining some mailing lists.I probably should join both a Polish and a Ukrainian mailing list.
Being that the town that my great-grandparents were from was originally part of Austria before it passed to Poland and then to the Ukraine, will I also need to search for Austrian records too??
You know, I'm part Polish/Austrian and part Italian (quite a combination, huh??).....I THOUGHT researching my Italian lines was difficult....I had no idea that researching my Polish heritage was going to be even more difficult and complex!!!!I've just started working on my Polish lines, so I'm quite overwhelmed with it's difficulty (but I'm sure everyone researching their Polish heritage was just as overwhelmed too at first).Hopefully, with the help of my family and the help that I'm getting through these message boards, it'll get a little bit easier!!
Again, thanks so much for all your help!!You'll probably be seeing my name pop up a lot in the future needing more help!!!
