My long-time good friend Jack, who was adopted, recently discovered that his birth name was John Edmond Toczylowski.
Jack asked me for help researching his birth family. He has reason to believe that your grandfather Edmund, son of Anthony/Antoni and Josephine, was his father.
Would you happen to know the name of Edmund's first wife?
I found your great-grandparents & children in the 1920 & 1930 censuses, living in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. In 1920 only Walter is with them. In 1930 Henry, Wladyslaw (Walter), Mary & Edmund are with them. Antoni's occupation is Laborer/Railroad. In 1930 Anthony's occupation is Laborer/Factory and Josephine's occupation is Chambermaid/Park Club.
I also find the whole family in a 1941 Buffalo Directory living at 183 Paderewski Drive. Anthony's occupation is not listed, but Edmund's is baker, Henry's is "mach OW Corp" Mary's is maid, and Walter's occupation or place worked says simply "USA".
My friend Jack was born in 1949 here in NYS, his sisters are supposedly older. I wonder if the breakup of Edmund and his first wife was the cause of the "hiding of the Toczylowski family history".
If you know the name of Edmund's first wife, and when Edmund left New York State, Jack & I would be very grateful for the information.
