Re: BINIECKI / KALKIEWICZ families
It appears that the Teofil and Hedwig Kalkiewicz family were early immigrants to the Buffalo, Erie County, NY area.
They arrived at the Port of New York on December 4, 1891 on board the S.S. Trave. They are indexed on Ancestry.com as “Kalkewicz”.The family consisted of Teofil (dob 1858), Hedwig (dob 1859), Rosalia (dob 1884, Jan (dob 1889) and Franciska (dob 1891).They listed German as their ethnicity.Other U.S. and State census documents list their place of birth as Posen and West Prussia.
The family appears in the 1900 U.S. census as “Leopold Kalkowski/Kalkeericz” living at 209 Sweet Street.By then, Teofil and Hedwig Kalkiewicz had two (2) more children, both born in New York: Anthony born in 1896 and Luwicka/Louise born in 1899.There last child, Martha was born in 1901.
Czeslaw/Chester Bieniecki/Biniecki (dob 1878) arrived at the Port of Baltimore on May 12, 1899 on board the S.S. Bonn.He is indexed on Ancestry.com as “Ceslawsck Bienecki”.His destination was 1036 Broadway in Buffalo where he was going to join his cousin Jan Kosin.
He listed Poniatow Russia/Poland as his last residence. There are two (2) locations in Poland with that name.Maybe someone on this Forum can help you narrow your search to the exact Poniatow.
The Bieniecki/Kalkiewicz family settled in the Broadway-Filmore neighborhood of Buffalo and seemed to gravitate near to the St. Adalbert’s Parish located at 212 Stanislaus St., present-day zip code 14212.Here is a link to the Adalbert web site: http://saintadalbertbasilica.org/http://saintadalbertbasilica.org/
It appears that their church (Sacramental) records are at the St. John Kanty Rectory:
ST. JOHN KANTY RECTORY
101 SWINBURNE ST.
BUFFALO, NY 14212
Do you know which church in Buffalo the Bieniecki and Kalkiewicz families attended? The churches marriage record may contain the locations where in Poland the bride and groom were baptized.
As I indicated earlier, there are U.S. and State census records for the family.
It appears that Teofil Kalkiewicz died between 1900 and 1910.Hedwig lived long enough to appear in the 1925 State census (age 68).
Czeslaw Bieniecki died between a 1920 and 1925.Rose Bieniecki last appears in the 1930 U.S. census (age 48).Again, the burial records would also be available at their Parish.
Where is “Frydham” located?
