If he was "Russian" than most likely he was Russian Orthodox. If he was Ruthenian than Byzantine Catholic.
Was he Russian?
Since he was not yet naturalized and if he lived pass 1940 than he had to fill out an Alien Registration Form.
Did you check in Baltimore, Boston or Philadelphia's port for arrival manifest?
