According to the 1920 census, Rose's birth language was Polish and she was born in Austria. (see full copy below). I do belong to Ancestry.com and have been searching there and elsewhere.
The son I am working with is the one named Tony. His first name was Anthony and he was born 20 September 1905. He said on his social security application that he was born in Pennsylvania, and the census says he was born in the USA; but that doesn't fit with his year of birth and the immigration year of 1906 for Rose. She is listed as an "Alien". You can see my quandry.
1920 U.S. Federal Census, Manhattan Assembly District 2, New York City, New York; sheet 2A, enumerated 5 Jan 1920:
Joe Weshefiskey38 head R m w M 1902 Al - - No No Russia Russia Russia Yes Clothing operator
Rose Weshefiskey 31 wife f w M 1906 Al - -No No Austria Polish Austria Polish Austria Polish yes
Tony Weshefiskey 14 son m w S YYY USA Russia Austria
Joe Weshefiskey 12 son m w S YYY USA Russia Austria
Sophia Weshefiskey9 dau f w S YYY USA Russia Austria
George Weshefiskey7 son m w S YYY USA Russia Austria
Mike Weshefiskey4 son m w S YYY USA Russia Austria
(Note: Cannot decipher Street name. It is 116 ??ystie St. Could be Kuy or Dir or? Neither Joe nor Rose can read or write, but both can speak English. Joe immigrated to the U.S. in 1902 and Rose immigrated in 1906. As of enumeration date, neither had become naturalized citizens.
Joe b. about 1882
Rose b. about 1889
Tony b. about 1906
Joe b. about 1908
Sophia b. about 1911
George b. about 1913
Mike b. about 1916
