Claude Melville: man of mystery

Hi, I am looking for information on a man of mystery. His name is Claude Melville, born on Aug. 7, 1862 and died in New Brunswick, Canada on May 26, 1930. He married Edith Rose Purcell around 1917 in Reading, England, then came to NB, Canada in 1920. We're pretty sure that his birth name was not Claude Melville, but I have no idea what it was. He was rumoured by different sources to have come from Kent-on-Southsea or Scotland. He probably married someone else before 1917, but details are sketchy.

He is thought to have served Britain in WWI, where he met Edith, but he would have been a bit old at the time.
