Castle Douglas

Researching my husbands family I have come to a very big brick wall, and desperately need the help of some kind person out there. It is said that the Lindsay( Lyndsay, Lyndsey ) family lived in the big house at Castle Douglas. Unfortunately I have never ha the chance to visit Scotland and do not know the area at all, but I did look up Threave House and have checked this out thinking this may have been the big house, however it does not appear to have been lived in since about the 1600's so that is out. The period I am looking for is early 1800's Is any one out there looking for the Lindsay's of Castle Douglas or maybe some one knows the history of the area sufficiently to advise me on what property I should look. Any help would be very appreciated.
Also where would I look for marriages abt 1850ish, am looking for Joseph Jones who I believe was the coach man or some servant and mary Lindsay daughter of the family, big discrace many thanks, Margaret.
