Padian Family History - Dumfriesshire connection?
From Padian forum:
Hi Pamela, It was nice to read your information, and have confirmed what I had also discovered. It seems our family is of great antiquity, have you come across the information that in 1190 the Padian family were seated at Stobbo in Dumfrieshire with manor and estates in that shire. In the same year they acquired lands from the Carruthers.Interestingly Stobbo still exists, and in the same area there is a place called Carruthers town. All of this tends to lend authenticity to the information, and although there is a bibliography with the information, I am not able to say with any certaintity which particular source it was actually derived from.Your last comment to the MacLean clan, I have also come across, but I wondered if you had checked out with the MacLean website as to eligibility to join the society for they appear to be saying that unless your name appears on their list of names with the exact spelling, one is not eligible.I would be very pleased to hear from you on this.Michael Padian
