Thom - Williams Family
To all the Thom's out there who connect to Our N.Z.Tree.
Good day to you all, Well come.
I'am the only Son to Mary Ngahina Thom and CharliesDomonic Tupua Williams.
Dad was part Samoan and part Irish.
My Williams side has lay'ed quite for well over 100 yrs.
Dad Died leaving little of his mum's Samoan side.
He left us much on his Dads side, who was the 1st State Commissioner for Savaii, In the late 1800's under a German Govt.
I have much on our Mum's, Maori lines,as we have the books here to read.
It is the Thom or Williams side I'm interested in right now.o.k.
Here is a little that I do have given to my mum, Via my Grand farther Thom,some was given Via other cousins whom I just meet,and now live in Australia,and some was given by other cousins whom I've never meet who have all ways lived in Australia.And others who live in N.Z.
My 5th X Great Grand father was given a free trip to Aussie
via the British Govt of the day, at the age of 19 years.
He was born 1803 in Dundee Scotland.
His Farther was George Thom. His Mum was Elizabeth Hunter, married 1794.
They hand 8 kids of which George was the 3rd youngest(I've miss layed my notes and will 1 day put the others issues here.)
He did have a sister called Helen,and brothers Robert,Henry.
He was shipped out in 1824 on a Convect ship for Aussie, with a sentience of 7 years and not to return home as the Death sentience awaited him.
He earn'nt his ticket of leave,but not before he lear'nt the trade of ship building.
He was given a ship called the "UNION" owned by businessmen Berry of Sydney, Australia.
He Traded goods between New Zealand. (N.Z.)and Australia in the early 1830/40's.
Known as the Flax and Musket Trade.
He met and married his Maori Wife in a small West Coast Trading Settlement of Kawhia.
(The only place where the Waka Tainui now sleeps, which came to N.Z.around 1250).
He and his Maori wife had their 1st born and only N.Z. born child in Onehunga,a harbor North of Kawhia also on the West Coast, Auckland,N.Z
They had a son next and 3 girls all born in Australia.

They were in Aussie because N.Z. did'nt trust mixed blood Kids as this was at the start of unease with Maori and the White man.
George Thom lost his life,the ship and all on board in 1846 in heavy weather of the coast of Sydney.

1st borne Mary Ann Thom borne. (b) 1830,
married; 12 Nov 1846 in Coolangatta New South Wales Austrlia.
Her Spous was from England named John Alexander Vallis.
Contact has been made via a family of Vallis here in N.Z. and one family who resides in Australia under the Mclaughlan,Renolds line.
The next born was George Edward Thom.(b)27 May 1834 in Sydney N.S.W.Australia(d)14 Feb 1896,buried in Shortland,Thames.N.Z.
His Spouse Elizabeth Foulis (Bessie) Lawlor, who's folks came here from Scotland,landing at Cornwallis N.Z. IN 1842.
Our 1st generation Kiwi.
Agnes Thom was next (b)9 June 1842,she married Joseph Sanders 1st who died a year latter. No issues.
Agnes then married Alfred Azarichr Preece, 28 Dec 1869. (b)1844-(d)1916, both are buried at the family plot in Corrmandel on Tiki Road.
There over 5000 decedents to this line and many are known to writer.
Next came Isabella (Bella) Thom. (b)1 Jan 1844 in Wollongong. N.S.W.Australia.
1st married E.M.Page.
2nd marriage to Joseph Reeve,who died in 1886 in Auckland.
They had 4 kids,being;
(1) Emily Agnes Reeve (b)15 Oct 1867 in Coromandell,N.Z.married George F. Sutherland.
(2)Emily Elizabeth Reeve(born N.Z.)married Roy Gladstone Pollard, they have Tim Pollard (b)1930 in N.Z. married Judith Abernethy.
They had Tim Pollard (b)1964.
(3) Elliott Roscoe Reeve (b)1870.
and(4)Mary Henrietta Waugh Reeve (b)1874.
This line is not known to the writer.
(5) The last born was little Jessie Thom (b)21 Aug 1846 in Sholhaven,N.S.W.Australia.
Jessie died in Auckland N.Z. at a young age.
George E Thom was my Great Grand Father.
They had 7 kids.
1st born Charles Theodore Foulis Thom(b)29 Nov 1874 (d)3 June 1878.
2nd born was George Augustus Thomas Thom. (b) 17 April 1876(died breaking inhorses.)married Violet Emily Day.
(Lost to all our N.Z.family's.)
3rd born was Theodore Thom (b)23 Feb 1878 (d)21 Dec 1879 drowned in the Taupiri River,Waikato, N.Z.
4thborn was Isabella Josephine Page Thom (b) 9 Nov 1879 (d)30 Jan 1939. Married Walter Anderson Mason.(d)1931 buried Kawhia Public cemetery.
They had two boys;Peter Uenukumairarotonga Mason,has 3 girl issues living in England.
And Kelso Wheturere Mason.(b)19 May 1910 in Kawhia, N.Z.He married Margaret Daphine Smith,(b)9 Jan 1926 in England.
They had 2 girls and a son.(1)Jean Mary Mason (2)Pamela Rosemary Mason,(3) David N Mason who has married Brenda Marsh here in N.Z.
5th born was Eugene Albert Thom (b)21 Dec 1881,(d)1966 at my parents home in Kawhia,N.Z.
(Pop was a Veteran of W.W.1.Reg No 60272,Heavy Machine Gun Corps.)
He married our Maori Grand Mother called Te Wai Rangi Taukiri-Hetekia.
They had 9 issues,2 girls died with in the 1st , 5 years of their young lives,and were buried at the family Urupa near their murturnal ground fathers MAREA (Home) at Tokopiko,near the Awaroa River,East of the Kawhia Township today.
(1) Elizabeth,(2) Pipi died first.born just after the War,1.
(3)James Rangi Thom (b)14 Jun 1924.He went to Aussie in 1946 and no one has heard of him since.
(4)Albert William Thom (b)30 July 1925 (d)1972. married Nancy May Tainui.(They have 12 issues and all a known to the writer.)
(5)George Lawlor Thom (b) Sept 1926(Gunner Sgt- Ret,J.Force Vet,Reg No 's 88664,94B/5875.married Maureen Mable Tee.
(They have 6 daughters, all a known to writer.)
(6)Sarah Agnes Thom (b)18 Feb 1928 (d)12 July 1995.Married Alphtl William Lawrence(b) 1919. (d)June 2009.
They had 2 girls and 6 boys, (are known to writer.)
(7)Mary Ngahina Thom (b)28 Feb 1930(d)25 Dec 2004.Married Charlies Williams.(b)1900.(d)April 1968.
They had 1 son and 1 daughter.
(1) Richard Albert Williams (b) 21 May 1955,(I carry the names of both Grand fathers).
(2) Lavina Rosemary Williams (b) 30 Oct 1956.
Mum remarried a Nick King from Taharoa,South of Kawhia and had 2 girls and 1 boy.
(8) Isabella Foulis Thom. (b)19 Aug 1931. (d)18 March 2008.
Married Allan Stanley Behan-Kitto.(b)11 April 1933.
They had 7 issues,2 girls and 5 boys. All are known to the writer.
(9)Eugene Taniti Thom.Veteran of K-Force.(b)10 Nov 1932 (d)19 Dec 2001 in Australia.Buried in the R.S.L.Atherton Urupa Queensland.
Eugene married May Davis and had a daughter Clear,who married a Painter? and become Mrs C Painter.
He also has a son who is known to the writer.
(5)th borne was Henry Lawlor Thom (b) 14 May 1884.died in a boating accident at Kawhia.
He married Mihi Rangi Apitia.
They had one issue,ether Heeni or Hemi Apitia Thom.(This family is not known to the writer.)
(6)th born was Napier Reeve Win Thom (b) 20 Sept 1885 (d)7 May 1940 buried Karori Urupa Wellington.N.Z.

He was in the heavy machine Gun Corps.
(He was the baby of our grand Uncles and died of the wounds he carried from the field of battle,from my Mum.)
This concludes what I know of my direct root to the early Thom line.
