I am trying to find information on my 4th great grandfather, Neal Thompson. From family history obtained from a family member, he was born about 1783 in Scotland. Possible variations of his first name are Neal or Niall. No date of death is known.
From the family history I have, Neil came to America at the age of about four. This would show that his immediate family immigrated about 1787. I have not been able to find out who his parents or siblings are. So far I have not been able to find the ship they sailed on orships records.
What I do know about Neil is this. He married Rosanna Sorrell. Her name is all we have. No dates of birth, death or marriage. Together they had six children: James Malcolm (1802 – 1862), Mary (1804 – 1881), John (1809 – 1893), Daughter, name unknown (1811 - ?), Jim (1814 – ?) and Daniel Alexander (1816 – 1890).
There is a possibility that the family traveled from Scotland to Ireland. Then boarded a ship bound for America. The earliest place of residence I have is the state James Malcolm was born in, North Carolina.
If anyone could help in finding the ship Neil traveled on or his parents and siblings I would appreciate it. This is a dead end and I am hoping to find out where in Scotland the family came from.
