Experiencing IWS (information Withdrawel Syndrome.)

I am trying to research families in Scotland and in Aberdeenshire specifically in the era prior to 1715.

What are the best internet sites for this subject matter? Most that i've found either are too new, covering the 19th century, or are 'pay-per-view'.

Any suggestions?
