Hello Gunther-
YES, records still exist in Serbia today! There are historical archives located in every major town in YU while some records are still in the town halls (municipality offices) of smaller towns - this is all individual. These archives and records are very well kept considering the kinds of funds and resources the YU ARCHIVES are working with.Unfortunately, retrieving/iewing/obtaining copies or originals of records from the archives is a little difficult and procedures for this vary from archive to archive. You must keep in mind that this region has had much more to worry about in the past decade and even century:)However, the archives ad their personnel are always willing to cooperate and help as much as they can. For more details on where and how you can find records you are looking for please e-mail me with any info you have on your ancestors at [email protected] .
Good Luck-
