Hello,
The POPADIC surname is uniquely Serbian in the sense that the surname is of Serbian origin, but can today be found in the entire ex-YU region.
As for the surname in the Dalmatian area, our colleagues from Benkovac have this info for us: the POPADICes from Dalmatia are from the island of Korcula and Vrlika and the family saints are:St. Nikola (celebrated Dec. 19th) and St. Georgije (more commonly known as Djurdjevdan and celebrated May 6th).Family saints are very helpful in linking Serbian families with the same last name and finding common roots. Obviously, different Popadic families have taken on one of these two saints as their family protector - usually entire families have one common saint and having the same surname but celebrating a different saint can mean several things.e.g. the families have the same surname but different roots or they may have been a family feud where someone decided to take on a different saint?!Anything is possible and one shouldn't jump to conclusions!
You can find this same info at http://www.benkovac.org.yu/obicaji/prezimena/p.htmhttp://www.benkovac.org.yu/obicaji/prezimena/p.htm
Hope this helps:)
Good luck-
