Help! Searching Milkalowitsch (vitch) Surname

By Anne Rossi July 07, 2002 at 01:39:19

My grandmother was Anna Mikalowitsch (b. 1862) (sp?) She married George Meek Luigi,a concert violinist who spoke eleven languages,(b. 1856) and they came to America via Baltimore or Galveston (so the story goes). When I do not know. Anna could have been born in Serbia. They had ten children, one of which (Rosa) was born in Baltimore. Eugene(Chena)was born in Crucifixus, Serbia and so was his brother, William.Brother Alec was born on the island of Malta. No info on birthplaces of other children. It is believed that there was a family-owned circus which traveled to America with them. So much mystery connected with the family. They seemed to be running from something. There are two stories which circulated through the family, but whether either of them was true...I do not know.

I would greatly appreciate any information on the Micalovitch name, i.e. proper spelling, etc.Or any information reference exactly where they lived.Could they have been gypsies? Is that why the children were born in different places?

PLEASE, ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.Send any replies directly to me at [email protected]
