Louise:Thnaks ever so much for your post.My family were from the Carpatho-Rusyn village of Ujak (now called Udol), former Saros county, in what is now Eastern Slovakia. They were Greek Catholic in religion with alot becoming Orthodox upon immigration to America.I have traced my family back to the 1700's over there, and up to the present, my family immigrated to New Jersey with one great uncle going on to Pittsburgh.I have many John Kovalciks in my line and as you know, the name Kovalcik if very common over there, Rusyns, Ukrainians, Polish and Slovaks use it so it can get difficult to trace. If your people were Rusyn and Greek Catholic and came from Eastern Slovakia (there were also Kovalciks in Orlov, Circ and Osturna that I know of) there may be a connection. Please email me if you think there were to be a connection, most of my family stayed in New Jersey but it is a very large extended family with some in Pennslyvania but I am not sure where outside of the Pittsburgh areas.
