STECZYSZYN, b. Hleschava 1883
I have found more information to do with my previous Stechishin question. My great-grandfather was Elias (aka Miroslav) Steczyszyn, born 1883 in Hleschava (is this possibly Gleshchava?). Elias came to Canada around 1900/01, and then moved around quite a bit until he settled in Winnipeg in 1920. He changed the spelling of his name in about 1906 in San Fransisco. He married Anna Budnik in 1908, and they had three children over the next 9 years. Around 1917, during Ukraine's brief independence, he was appointed "Secretary of the Diplomatic Mission" by the Ukrainian government and worked in Washington, D.C. for about 2 years. Later he became editor for the Ukrainian Voice. He also had a brother, Michael, who came to Canada shortly after Elias and settled in Saskatchewan as a lawyer. I know their father was born around 1847 and was technically a serf for one year before it was abolished, but I don't know his name. Any help or directions on where to look in the Ukraine would be greatly appreciated!
