Marr from New Zealand

I have an ancestor by the name of Lawrence Marr Sr, who was born in Renfrew Scotland, approx. 1700 and who came to the states approx. 1731. It is my belief he may have been the brother of the Earl of Mar John Francis Erskine. His son was given a pair of silver boot buckles and knee buckles that were not the type that the peasantry of scotland would wear, by Lawrence Marr. Anyway, from a source, I found that there was a Marr Family in New Zealand who was a definite small connection. A woman with the surname of Marr could have been sister or wife? I don't think anyone knows who Lawrence was married to, but he did have a number of children once he got to the United States.
