I am seeking information about my grandfather, Mohamed Ismael.
He travelled to South America from Amritsar (India) in the early 20th Century, no later than 1911.Initially he lived in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and in 1921 his address was Paseo Colon 161.He suffered ill-health and spent time in a tuberculosis santatorium in Cordoba Province.
By 1931 he was living in Montevideo (Uruguay) and was still there in 1935, when he was living at 4th Floor, Rincon 438, Montevideo. At some stage over the following year he went to La Paz (Bolivia) for six months, but was back in Montevideo in May 1948 living at an unknown address.Nothing is known about his residential whereabouts after this date.
In Buenos Aires he had various jobs, including with two railway companies: from 1911 (maybe earlier) he was employed at Estancia Germania Ltd and in 1915 had a position with Ferro-Carril de Sud.
But from July 15 1921 until at least 1932 he worked for the Mexican Petroleum Corporation, a subsidiary of Pan American Petroleum and Transport, in turn a subsidiary of Standard Oil of Indiana. He claimed to have held a senior position as Manager of the company in Uruguay with 130 men working under him, and travelled a couple of times each month to Buenos Aires.Little is known about his activities in subsequent years but in 1948 he was working in Montevideo for an unknown Argentine company, having previously spent six months at its branch in La Paz (Bolivia).
I would be very pleased to hear from any descendants or contacts who might have further information, or advice on other sources to search.
