Rachel Motley (c.1809-1873)
I am searching for information on Rachel Motley (abt. 1809-1873) who according to the 1860 US Census for Russell County, Alabama was born in Georgia and 51 years old in 1860.I know about her from an article (not error free as it has turned out) that was published in a 1956 Alabama Historical Quarterly magazine. She was reported in the article to have been born in Autauga County, Alabama and married there in 1815.She was also reportedly related somehow (perhaps as first cousin) to early Autauga settlers John G. Motley, William M. Motley, and B. F. Motley.I might have seen her name spelled as Rachael in one source.
She was reported in the article to have married an Edward L. Davis (1797-1858) of Kentucky, an early settler of Russell County. Their first-born child was a son named Stephen W. Davis, who went on to name his only son Wilson Asbury Davis.I believe the names Stephen and Wilson come from the Motley side of that family.
Any information will be greatly appreciated!
