Looking for anyone researching the Shields family of Pike and Geneva Cos., AL, who might known about connections with the Tanton/Taunton family.

Was "Rocksy" a Shields? What happened to her and William Tanton? I can't find them on any later censuses.
(James?) Jefferson Shields married a woman named Mary J. (--) and appears in the 1860 census for Pike Co.:
Shields, Jefferson25AlabamaFarmer Mary J.23Georgia William3Alabama Henry2Alabama Hampton22AlabamaFarm Laborer
As Hampton is most likely Jefferson's brother, I think Jefferson is the same individual as the 16-year-old James Shields listed in William Shields' household in 1850, especially since Jefferson and Mary named a later son James Jefferson Shields.
Jefferson died before 1870, when widowed Mary was head of her own household in Geneva Co.:

Now, here's where the Tanton/Tauntons re-enter the picture. Following Jefferson Shields' death, Mary married John Taunton/Tanton, and they were living in Geneva Co. in 1880:

John Taunton/Tanton died before 1900. At this time, I don't know who John's parents were or how he ties into the rest of the Taunton/Tantons living in the Pike and Geneva Co. area. Does anyone out there have any additional info on these Shieldses or their Tanton/Taunton connections?
