When Marshall Co. was organized in 1836, an Ala. law specified that no county could be formed which had less than 900 square miles, and there was some doubt that Marshall was that large. In the 1838 session, an act was passed to take some of Madison Co. and give it to Marshall co.However, in 1865, because of a new law permiting counties to be formed with less than 600 sq. mi., some of the land in Marshall Co. was given to two new counties: Etowah and Cullman.Blaine Co. was abolished by an act of Dec. 1, 1868; Etowah Co. got a portion and the Marshall Co. boundary was altered. The boundary lines between Marshall, Jackson and DeKalb Bounties were altered sligtly in 1843, 1848, 1952, 1854 and 1858.
