John H. Long & Solety Parker (1829)
I'm trying to get any information on this couple.I found their marriage in an Alabama marriage index.John H. Long married Solety Parker on August 13, 1829 in Montgomery County.According to census records their four eldest children were born in Alabama between 1830 and 1837 and their fifth child was born in Arkansas in 1839 so they must have moved in about 1838.In the 1850 census they are found in Ashley County, Arkansas.
I'm particularly interested in Solety and finding out just who she was and her parents.I've checked the 1830 census for Montgomery County and found only three Parker household.Doctor Ashley Parker, Jeriah H. Parker and John or Jonathan R. Parker.
Later census records also show that Solety was born in Georgia in about 1813 and that her parents were born in Delaware.I'm guessing there aren't many families migrating from Delaware to Georgia around 1800 and I'm hoping that someone in Montgomery County might be able to shed some light on this.
I've never found given name spelled the same way twice. Her marriage record (or at least the index) gives the name as Solety. But later records also give Seletha and Salitie or just the initial of S.
To lend a small problem, the surname Washington has been passed down through the generations as a possible maiden name for her.On her obituary she is listed as "S. W. Long"Could the W. be for Washington? No record gives a maiden name and there is a slight possibility that she briefly married a Mr. Parker before she married Jack Long.
