Wiley Davis 1840, Ephraim Davis 1860
In researching my tree, there is an ancestor, Mary (Polly) MANGRUM, b. ca 1802 VA who moved to Maury Co, TN with her parents sometime before 1816.She married Wiley DAVIS sometime during 1816-1836 and they moved to AR.Her parents were Isham MANGRUM and Martha Patsy ALLEN.In 1836 Maury Co, there was a court case regarding Martha Allen MANGRUM's inheritance regarding some slaves she inheited from her father. The court document states that one of Martha's children was "Polly who has intermarried with Wiley DAVIS"..."Wiley DAVIS & Polly his wife of Arkansas,".
In trying to find Wiley and Mary Polly DAVIS, I find a Wiley DAVIS, head of household with 8 kids, in the 1840 Scott Co, AR census...have not yet found anything for 1850...in 1860 Scott Co, AR, I find Ephraim DAVIS living with his wife, Nancy, son "Wiley" DAVIS and his mother, 58 year old, Mary DAVIS (presumed widowed).
I am trying to find out if this is Mary Polly MANGRUM.It's possible that Ephraim DAVIS named his son after his deceased? father, Wiley DAVIS.By the way, Wiley DAVIS had a brother named Ephraim DAVIS.
In 1887, a newspaper item says Isaac Mangrum, my g-g-grandfather, "I. N. (Isaac) Mangrum, brother of County Clerk J. H. Mangrum, visits relatives in Washita (sic) Co, AR".Any help appreciated.
