N.O. HELGESON LAID TO REST
Whole Community Payed Last Respects to Departed Leading Citizen Friday
Funeral services for the late
N.O. HELGESON were held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock when the whole community paid last respects to the memory of a man who was held in the highest esteem.
The services were conducted by
Rev. V.A. SPICKER with song service by
Mrs. L. G. BEESON accompanied by
Mrs. Austin LUTTROPP at the piano.
Burial was made in Riverside cemetery.
Pallbearers were: L.L. LUTTROPP, B.J. KINNE,
John OUD, Samson SNYDER, E.W. JEWELL and
Honorary pallbearers were:
J.G. BULLOCK, E.F. OPPLIGER,
C.O. PORTFORS, H.D. BRITAN,
J.L. McCARTHY and L.G. BEESON.
A special car was used for the flowers.
NELS OLAF HELGESON was born at Brandon, Minnesota, December 18, 1882 and died at the Orofino hospital February 25th at 5:30 am following an operation for intestional adhesions.
He came to Backfoot, Idaho, in December, 1903, and was employed there by Dr. J.W. GIVENS until 1906, when he came to Orofino and worked at the NORTHERN IDAHO SANITARIUM until 1908.
On July 4, 1909, he was married to Elizabeth BROWN. During that year he operated the COTTAGE HOTEL here for eight months and in 1910 entered the employ of Horace NOBLE, remaining in his service for five years when he took over the HOTEL OROFINO for a period of ten years.
In the spring of 1924 he started construction of the present HELGESON HOTEL which was opened for occupation December 22nd, 1924, which he operated until death.
During his residence in Orofino, he was always an earnest worker for the community welfare and identified himself with practcally ever activiy of public benefit.
He was a member of the city council and Mayor of Orofino for four years, an active member of the fire department, a member of the board of directors of Memorial Park association, president of the county fish and game association, and took a leading part in many other activities.
He extended free use of his hotel facilities for commercial club meetings, of which organization he was a trustee for several years, to the fire department activities, Legion benefit dances, and for many social ocassions.
He was a lover of fishing and hunting and clean competitive sports, and gave freely of his time and money for the promulgation of such things.
He was a member of the Norweigan Lutheran church.

Mrs. Lambert INGLERT of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Miss Dora HELGESON of Jamestown, North Dakota; and Mrs. Sophie RHODE of Longview, Washington.
His father preceded him to the grave twelve years ago.
Louis HELGESON, George HELGESON and Mrs. RHODE were here for the funeral.
