Hi Brad, thanks so much for responding to my post.Since I originally posted I have found just a little more info.I was able to get a copy of my grandmother's birth record. Her father was CHARLES SYDNOR.He is listed as being born in Joe Davies County, IL, and his nationality as French. He was 24 years old at the time of the registration, which was Jan. 1887, and his occupation was a cooper.
Her mother was MARY JACQUOT, born in Warsaw, IL, also of French nationality.
You don't make any mention of any French backgrounds for the Sydnor name - have you run across this at all?I am still unable to find any other family information such as census records. But I do know how parts of France went back and forth between France and Germany, and maybe he was from one of those areas. This was the case on my grandfather's side, and it's interesting to see through the census years how sometimes the mother were said to be from Germany, but on other ones it's France. (Alsace-Lorraine to be specific).
I found their marriage record out on the IRAD site and am in the process of requesting a record.IRAD has his name spelled SYDNER, but I have found so many instances where handwriting has been mis-transcribed (not faulting anyone - some of the handwriting is really tough).
If you might have any leads on this it would be great to hear back from you again.
