David Funderburk, 91, died at 12:40 PM Sunday, at his home here, following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be held on Wed. afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Carlton Funeral Home. Rev. Earl J. White, pastor of the Baptist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Staunton City Cemetery.
He was born on Dec 6, 1849 in Macoupin County, west of Staunton. On October 2, 1871 he married Miss Matilda Hausam. The couple resided on a farm west of Staunton until 38 years ago, when they moved to Staunton. They were parents of nine children.
Surviving are a son, Laney Funderburk of Kansas City, Missouri; three daughters, Mrs. Henry A. Bergfeld, Mrs. Julia Purslow and Mrs. Ida Allen, all of Staunton; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. == May 9, 1930, Friday Edwardsville Intelligencer Newspaper, Staunton News Notes Mr. and Mrs. David Funderburk passed their 58th Wedding Anniversay at their home today. The event was not celebrated but relatives and friends called throughout the day to extend well wishes to the aged couple, and lovely hothouse flowers brightened the rooms of the home.
Mr. and Mrs. Funderburk were married at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Mary Hausam, who resided on a farm over the Madison County Line, near Staunton, the ceremony having been performed by Rev Mr. Hutch of West Prairie.
They went to housekeeping on a farm west of Staunton, where they resided until they retired and moved to Staunton 28 years ago.
Mrs. Funderburk was formerly Miss Matilda Hausam and is now 74 years old. She fell a year ago and suffered a fractured shoulder blade, but has revovered and is able to do a portion of her housework. Mr. Funderburk is 80 years old and is also active for his age.
Of the nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Funderburk, the following are living: Mrs. Henry A. Bargfield, Mrs. Ida Allen, Mrs. Julia Purslow, of this city; Laney Funderburk and Mrs. G.H. Lohmire of Butte, Montana. They also have 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. === Sat, Dec 10, 1938 Staunton News Notes The 89th birthday anniversary of David Funderburk was celebrated at his home Tuesday, when a turkey dinner was served to relatives.
Mr. Funderburk has the following children: Mrs. Maude Lohmire, ofButte, Montana; Laney Funderburk who is in Missouri; Mrs. Ida Allen, Mrs. H.A. Bargfeld, and Mrs. Julia Purslow.
Mrs. Allen was called to Detroit, Michigan recently on account of the critical illness of her son-in-law, Glenn Doner of Garden City, Michigan.
