ira Samuel Haverfield marriage c. 1898

I found two records for my grandfather's marriage in Christian County to Laurella M. Carpenter in "Illinois County Marriages, 1810-1934." One gives his age as 22 and hers as 20; the other says he is 21 and she is 18.Other records indicate he was born in Feb. 1878.I also have a photo of their joint gravestone in Greenwood Twp., Christian County IL.Unfortunately, the stone is in shadow, making it impossible to make out the dates for either of them.Any clues as to why two conflicting marriage records exist and any leads to deciphering the headstone would be appreciated.
