If you were told by your adoptive mother of the two names (Foss/Johnson) it seems to be an odd coincidence that we have found an Irma/Erma Foss, born in Chicago about the right time, living with a step-father and mother with the last name Johnson.Mr Engel was away in the service from 1942 - 1945.I don't believe he is your father, but she sure seems to be a good candidate for your mother.Do you have any other information, dates, ages or addresses?
