Hamlet and Dorcus WENTWORTH
Hamlet and Dorcas Wentworth of Fulton County, Illinois, had three children in the 1840s: Hiram, Lucy, and John H. Hiram enlisted in the 11th Illinois Cavalry (USA) in 1862 and was mustered out at Vicksburg, Mississippi, in 1865. He married Ellen C. Branson. In December 1862 Lucy wrote a letter to her brother John from Bates County, Missouri. That letter was published in a book called "Bushwhackers and Broken Hearts" (2011). John Holden Wentworth was a musician in the 33rd Missouri Infantry Volunteers (USA). He died on 1 February 1863 at Helena, Phillips, Arkansas, probably of disease or exposure. He was fifteen years old.
